Basic Facts

This week I am testing Room 24 in reading and maths. Your child will bring home browsing books rather than guided books from me - just for one week. We are also doing some extra basic facts tests this week to demonstrate to other classes how we run the test. You know we love basic facts!

This weekend

It's Children's Weekend this weekend. There are many events happening including the zoo and MOTAT - click on the pictures to make them larger.  And there's also the West Bike Fest on Saturday 1st.  Check out tall he events on the Auckland Council website. You can also sign up on this site to receive information on city events.

Assemblage Art

We've almost finished our assemblage art. Come in and have a look at the children's creations when you're free - all from your recycled items. They look great!!

Thank you Andrea and Vickie (Jacob and Tegan's mums) for your help with hot gluing in class. Also, thank you parents for helping your child get started at home with the boxes.

Mums, Dads and relatives, if you are ever free to help in the morning or afternoon, please let me know:).

Thursday swimming at lunchtime

Great news - there is a special swimming lunchtime activity on Thursdays for Term 1 (for all levels). If your child would like to join, they need to bring their swimming bag on Thursday (I will let them eat early and get ready early for swimming).

Lunchtime swimming clashes with the kapa haka Thursday group, so no kapa haka children can join unfortunately. The kapa haka children can have a sticker from me though -  I like to encourage commitment to the fantastic cultural groups available at Arahoe.

West Bike Fest

The West Bike Fest is coming up on Saturday March 1st, 10am - 1pm at the beautiful Corban's Estate, Henderson. It is a free event with spot prizes to encourage children to bike... and it looks cool!

Assemblage Art

As part of our major learning this term on how we are unique, we will be making assemblage art in class. Assemblage art is art that has been assembled out of second hand and recycled items. A notice should be in your child's bookbag today about it and here some pictures below to inspire you.

Tomorrow, the children will bring home a favourite things worksheet to complete at home. They have started it in class. Please bring this back on Friday with a box (you can partition it and paint it at home or cover it in any way you like if your child has some special ideas). All the gluing will be done in class. Please bring back items to glue inside by Friday also.

If you have a hot glue gun or are available next week to be a parent help in the afternoon 12:45 - 3:00, please let me know.

Thanks
Fleur Tuck

Best weekend ever!

The children came back to school buzzing today about their fabulous weekends: Stan Walker, watching the Nines, the Lantern Festival... so many events! We all had fun and interesting news to talk about. If your child writes about events please send the writing so they can read it aloud to the class and share it on the wall.

The Awa (River) reading group today read a story on daisies opening and closing at day and night. Nasareta found a daisy at afternoon tea play and made a mud ball for it. Here it is - I think it's sleeping.

Hi,
One of the most popular fan & family events of the Blues season is happening this Sunday: the Meet the Blues open day at QBE Stadium (formerly North Harbour Stadium), in association with More FM and The New Zealand Herald.
From 2.30pm – 4.30pm you’ll have your chance to join in with some skills and drills sessions run by the players for kids of all ages (and adults pretending to be kids!). There will also be bouncy castles, a giant slide, face painters, New Zealand Herald giant games, giveaways and an autograph signing session.
Refreshments are on offer too, with a sausage sizzle and some great cold Milo drinks. The event is free, the parking is free - so come along and have an afternoon of fun with the Blues.
Please remember there is still plenty of time to sign up for your True Blues membership. It’s the best way for dedicated fans to catch the Blues, with 4-game passes from just $69, and 8-game passes from $129 (kids start from just $24). We’ll have sign up forms at the Meet the Blues day or you can click here to sign up for your 2014 membership.
Kind Regards
Pauline Williams

Pleased to introduce myself

This week the children will be investigating who they are and will complete a fun profile page on themselves. There will be information like, what languages are spoken at home, their favourite things and what their home address is.

The children will need some help to find out their information. Please help them recite and write their address and also please tell your child why they are called by their first name, middle name and last name - any stories will be great!
Pleased to meet you.

Don't forget this Wednesday is the Whanau/Family BBQ (please see Newsletters above). The children are practising introducing people and showing them around the school and classroom. If you and your child are able to make it, it will be great to see you there.
